Facebook suspends political ads until the end of US election day

Facebook announced this Wednesday that it will stop publishing political or social issue ads until after the polls close in the US, on November 3rd. The company aims to reduce the chances of confusion or abuse.

The social network said any posts that prematurely announce a winner or dispute the count will be linked to reliable information from media outlets and election officials.

“If a candidate or party declares premature victory before final results are released by major media outlets, we will add more specific information in notifications that counting is still ongoing and no winner has been determined,” Facebook executives said at a conference of press.
